Hand Moxa Treatment

Is an external heat therapy applied on or over an acupuncture point or affected area made from the dried leaves of Chinese mugwort (Artemesia arygii) Gentle heat is said to strengthen energy, warm cold and dry dampness.

The heat results from burning a stick of moxa close to, but not touching the surface of the skin which is allowed to smoulder an inch or two above the area being worked until the area becomes suffused with gentle warmth.

  • Moxa strengthens the immune system.
  • Relieves pain due to injury.
  • Relieves abdominal symptoms of IBS, Colitis, elimination issues.
  • Arthritis where client complains of cold.

Moxibustion can safely be used at home. After training by the therapist, many clients use moxa therapy on themselves to strengthen the effect of the treatment between sessions.

  • Insured and accountable with appropriate qualifications
  • Works within their competence
  • Will refer on to GP or other appropriate health worker if medical conditions are detected which go beyond complementary treatment
  • Will consult with client and make appropriate recommendations to supplement treatment
